Description:
In Welsh mythology, Rhiannon is a horse goddess, and later evolved into a goddess of sovereignty who protected the king from treachery.
She was unjustly accused of killing her infant son, and in punishment she was forced to work and live as a horse would, but she overcame this with labour and honour, gaining the respect of the gods.. The skulls show the truth at the core of the story that she was unjustly punished, while a sparrow flies over her as a symbol of protection.
In this artwork she is bound to the horse fighting to protect her son's memory ( his eyes blackened and ghostly) and her honour.
Transforming her into Celtic goddess more commonly known as the Lady of the Lake. The Celtic goddess who gave Arthur the sword Excalibur, which empowered him to become King in the legends of Camelot.
The meaning for the artist is in respecting those who suffer for your success.
